Where have all the hippies gone?
Are they sitting in their garden
sipping iced tea all day long?

Are they knitting socks
or don’t they do that anymore
in their big houses with heated floors?

Where have all the hippies gone?
Did they shave off their armpit hair
or their empathy?

Are they making love
or did they switch that rifle
to a different shoulder?

Where have all the hippies gone?
Could you imagine
them

Explaining the need to go to
asking, demanding, justifying leopards please
hoping, applauding, making a facebook fist for

peace?

A mouthful of silence

Once there was a man
who laid himself upon me

I thought of us as a poem
black on white
strong yet fragile

I slowly began to rhyme
to move my hips and dance
to the rhythm of our poetry

While his hands slid under
my skirt, my skin
around my waist of time

My synesthetic figure of style

I dropped my guard
as he advanced, as he planted his iklwa sword
in my tummy, as he grabbed my voracious throat

And choked me with silence

(Don’t you know I’m a conquistador, he could have said. Striving to expand, to incorporate, to embody. To never loose ground, to always protect the borders of my lost land, my Kumari Kandam. He could have said. But he said nothing of that kind leaving me breathless instead with the sound of his withdrawing sword.)

 

Arribada

Ik schreef een luistergedicht met de hoopvolle titel ‘Arribada’ waarin ik de chaotische indrukken van het hier en nu mix met mijmeringen over een andere, zachtere en misschien wel oorspronkelijkere wereld.

Besmette Stad

Samen met Stokely Dichtman maakte ik de poëzie pop-up ‘De Ongeoorloofde Verplaatsing van de Music Hall’. Daarmee wonnen we de open call van deBuren waarin gevraagd werd om een hedendaags antwoord te geven op de dadaïstische poëziebundel ‘Bezette Stad’ van Paul van Ostaijen.

Gerjan Piksen componeerde vervolgens een unieke soundscape bij onze video. Dreigend doch lichtvoetig, onheilspellend doch speels. Het eindresultaat is een gelaagde, kritische en bij momenten Tim Burtoneske beleving van de maatschappelijke actualiteit.
